Mine Blasts Kill 36 in "Xinjiang" in 2001

Washington, March 1, (UIA) -- Frequent explosions due
to
lax security measures in "Xinjiang" mines already
resulted the death of 36
miners this year, China's
state media reported on Thursday.
According
to China News Service report, 36 miners died
early this year in "Xinjiang" as
a result of eleven
different explosions, including two major ones.
An
explosion that occurred at Sigonghe Coal Mine near
Fukang City killed
four miners, the report said.
Another major explosion that occurred at
Dapingtan Coal
Mine near Fukang City on February 22 killed eleven
miners,
according to the report.
The report said "Xinjiang" Uyghur Autonomous
Regional
Bureau of Coal Mine Safety, after carefully
investigating the
explosion sits, came to the
conclusion that they occurred because of lax
safety
measures and lack of fire-extinguishers in the mines.
China
depends heavily on the use of coal since it is a
major source of energy in
China's rapid development.
Every year mine explosions frequently occur in
China,
resulting the death and injury of thousands of
miners.
