From: "Kathy Polias" <kpolias@uyghurs.org>
The Uyghur Human Rights Coalition is designating Monday and Tuesday of this week as PHONE-IN DAYS FOR UYGHUR POLITICAL PRISONER ABDULHELIL ABDUMIJIT.  We ask that you phone the Chinese embassy and consulates here in the U.S. and demand that the Chinese government IMMEDIATELY disclose the circumstances surrounding Mr. Abdumijit's recent death.  Amnesty International has received reports that Mr. Abdumijit was tortured to death by prison officials.  Phone numbers for the Chinese embassy and consulates are at the bottom of this e-mail.

SOME TALKING POINTS FOR YOUR PHONE CALLS

(1)  Amnesty International has received reports that Abdulhelil Abdumijit, one of the organizers of the Ghulja protests in 1997, was tortured to death while in detention in Chapchal Su Detention Center in Yili County, Xinjiang.

(2) The Chinese government should conduct a full and impartial investigation into the reports that he was tortured to death.

(3)  Mr Abdumijit's detention has been marked by secrecy since his arrest in 1997.  His family was reportedly denied access to him as well as information about his situation.

(4)  China is a party to the UN Convention Against Torture and therefore has an international obligation to refrain from using methods of torture as a form of punishment, as well as an obligation to investigate allegations of torture.
