According to the information
sent by ETIC reporter Tomur Hojja from Ghulja, on 17 Oct.2000, the chief
organizer of The 5th February Hula Uprising Abduhelil Abdulmejit was tortured to
death by the Chinese police in Chapchal Su Detention Center of Ili County,
northern Xinjiang. He was 31 years old. The Chinese authority arrested
Abdujelil Abdulmejit after brutally crashing the uprising he led in 1997. Since
then he was kept in the notorious water jail where the secret police
interrogated him constantly and tortured him brutally. His body was taken
to the Chapchal old cemmentary under heavy police guard. The prison police
buried him in a shallow grave without even bothering to remove his prison
clothes. According to our sources, his relatives and friends are
still denied access to his grave. The Uyghur community living in exile in
Germany is deeply saddened by his death. In the memory of their martyr and to
show their anger at the Chinese Regime, they are organizing a memorial
service at the East Turkistan Information Center on 22 October 2000. We will
bring you farther update to the event.
