Urgent appeal to the International Community to condemn the execution of Uighurs by Chinese authorities in Eastern Turkestan

The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), consisting of 51 Members representing more than 100 million people throughout the world, is shocked by Chinese authorities’ execution of two young Uighur men, Jurat Nuri (27), and Abduhalik Abdureshit (24), in Ghulja city on January 9, 2001. Their execution is the latest incident of grave human rights abuses conducted by Chinese authorities in recent years whereby hundreds of Uighurs have been executed, tortured or arbitrarily arrested.     UNPO wishes to draw the international community’s attention to the fact that China is conducting this “silent” policy of ethnic cleansing in Eastern Turkestan despite its signing of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its ratification of the UN Convention Against Torture. As such, China has repeatedly violated the basic objectives and purposes of these agreements. UNPO appeals to the international community to unequivocally condemn China’s policy of subjection and annihilation of the Uighur nation, aimed at eradicating their right to self-determination for all times.     The international community cannot afford to continue its indifference in this respect. It is this indifference which has contributed to the horrific occurrence of ethnic cleansing in the recent past. The international community has a responsibility to help reverse the general feeling among oppressed peoples that their voice can be heard only when amplified by acts of violence against oppressive authorities.
