It is true that new Uyghur script has left
a lot of Uyghurs illeterate. However, I persanally suggest why don't we use both
interchangably. There are lot of examples for nationalities use more than one
cript.
The arabic based Uyghur script is fine but new Uyghur script is important for
Uyghurs to adopt the technology terms and to solve computer related problems.
Experience tells us Uyhgurs who attend the Arabic script based school system
have no problem understanding the new scirpt but the Uyghurs who attended the
Latin based Uyghur scrip has virtually now idea about the Arabic script. This
will tell us
the importance of both. Ararbic script can be used for publishing Uyghur
literature, however, new script can also be used for certain informal
communication. However, completely changing the Ararbic scrip to new script will
leave another generation of Uyghurs illeterate.
